Community Liaison Officer's Update
Headcorn’s Community Liaison Officer Stuart Ellesmere reports that he has had another busy month.
September’s Community safety surgery was a success, with more agency attendees including further officers from MBC who conducted a resident survey. These surgeries are a great opportunity to meet and chat with a wide range of agencies who are here to help you.
Stuart has assisted with resolving ongoing bin collection issues, along with Borough Councillor Round – hopefully these issues will now see improvement.
To assist those who struggle with disabilities Stuart would be interested to hear of any specific access issues residents have in Headcorn around the Village and their ability to utilise public transport.
Stuart continues to work with Orbit housing officers with regards to ASB and also continue to work with Golding homes and West Kent Housing. He has also had various meetings with Kent Police and Maidstone Borough Council Community Protection Team Officers throughout the month.
Stuart continues to support a vulnerable elderly resident and her Power of attorney who was flooded out of their property in Feb 2023. He is hoping that a resolution is swiftly sorted.

New Freedom of Headcorn Award
It’s likely that many of you will know a volunteer in the Village who has worked tirelessly for years to help our community. The Parish Council has relied on many such people over the years and very occasionally there are some who have given so much that we we feel they deserve public recognition. Thus, two individuals - Lyn Selby and Tim Thomas have been chosen to receive the very first ‘Freedom of Headcorn’ Award. Lyn Selby worked for the Parish Council for over 40 years, including many as Chairwoman. Tim Thomas not only devoted 36 years to the Parish Council but also continues to support the Village Hall, Heart of Headcorn, RAF Association and History Society, among others.
Whilst the Award is traditionally merely honorary with no real privileges we feel some token to mark the achievement is justified. We have therefore commissioned Headcorn’s talented jewellery designer Charmian Beaton to conceive something that will serve as a permanent token to mark the award. The plan is to have a public ceremony when the award is ready to present. Everyone will be invited.
New PA System in time for Remembrance Sunday
One of our community’s best attended events is the annual Remembrance Sunday parade and service. This year we will benefit from a new PA system which should ensure that many more attendees will be able to clearly hear proceedings. The new system will be provided thanks to a generous donation from one of our parishioners. This year Remembrance Sunday will be on Sunday 10th November.
Date for your diaries
We know there are quite a few events planned in the lead up to Christmas and we’re really looking forward to those. We’d like to add that the Salvation Army will be performing again this year in Foreman’s Walk, at 7pm on Friday 6th December.
