Community Liaison Officer's Update
In addition to his regular duties Stuart has been busy assisting with a new Christmas initiative in the Village. This year for the first time a ‘Christmas Giving Tree’ was installed in the Post Office whereby generous parishioners were able to select a gift to purchase for a local child. A variety of gift tags were hung on the tree which described the age of the child and gifts were then purchased and returned with the tag for wrapping. No-one was sure whether this would work but it has been so heartening to have to constantly replenish the tree with tags because of the high demand. All donated gifts have now been received and they will be handed to those who are most in need over the coming weeks. We would all like to thank you all for giving so generously to help every child in the community.

Christmas Event
Our sincere thanks to everyone who came and supported our tombola at the Christmas Shopping event last Saturday. All proceeds will be going to support Veterans Operating Base. If you’d like to support their cause you can email support@vob.org.uk, or check their website here:

Precept
It’s Precept budget time again. The Precept is the portion of your Council Tax that funds the Parish Council’s work in the village—everything from maintaining our greens to staff wages, insurance, events, and other essentials of village life.
The Precept is based on a Band D property (the midpoint of Bands A–H) and is calculated by Kent County Council. This year’s Tax Base is £2,096.40, up from £2,044.70 last year—an automatic increase of £51.70, which means we would receive more funding even without changing our request.
However, due to the recent Budget, inflation, and the need to protect our reserves, we will be requesting a small additional amount. As a result, the total Precept will rise from £370,000 to £380,000—an increase of just 0.17%, or about 30 pence for the year per Band D household. This brings the annual Precept for a Band D property to £181.26.

Please be vigilant
We have been made aware by Kent Police that there is increased smuggling activity taking place across the county using light aircraft at night. Criminals use the cover of darkness and discreet sites to land. If you hear a light aircraft at night (not the regular military chinook flights to the aerodrome or large commercial airliners) please contact border force here:
