Community Liaison Officer's Update

Stuart's had a busy few weeks which has seen him assist with a few live emergencies involving different agencies.  This included a serious water leak in Forge Meadows which necessitated the help of the fire brigade.  Thankfully Stuart was able to use his expertise and community knowledge to assist in resolving a problem that could have had a major impact on several adjacent properties.

This month Stuart asks you to look out for illegal e-bikes which are being ridden dangerously.  This might be one that has been adapted to be ridden above the 15mph limit for such bikes, or one that is being ridden off road or into oncoming traffic.  They are distinguished from legal e-bikes by their lack of conventional pedals and distinguished from motor bikes by their lack of number plates.  These kind of offences could endanger life so require reporting to 999 is the only safe response please.

Redhill Stables Natural Burial Ground

Unfortunately our proposals for a Natural Burial Ground at Redill Stables (on Lenham Road) have been refused by Kent County Council on the grounds that access road sight lines are unsuitable. This is frustrating, particularly because (a) access will be infrequent and (b) adjacent properties with more frequent access have had no such challenges. HPC intends to meet with KCC to closely examine their grounds for refusal.

Rural Exception Sites in Headcorn

After conducting research in the community it is clear that there is a demand for housing which is explicitly set aside for people with a strong link to our village. Unfortunately social housing provision does not always satisfy that demand. Headcorn Parish Council has been approached by The Rural & Community Housing Enabling Service (RACE) who are able to apply for small developments on brownfield sites which is driven by local demand and which would be ring fenced for Headcorn locals only. We therefore propose to allow RACE to pursue this opportunity and when a suitable site becomes available we will let everyone know the plans.

Traffic Problems

Last month we staged one of our regular Speedwatch sessions with the assistance of Kent Police. 14 speeding drivers were registered in just one hour. Meantime we have been asked by KCC to organise a number of consultations in the form of surveys to gather data on a few of the long-fought-for solutions to traffic problems in the village. Please look out for these surveys and help us to help you by taking part.

Funfair?

We have received a request from a Fun Fair operator to host a Fun Fair in Headcorn Village. This hasn’t happened for many years but HPC will now consider it. If you have views on their return please do let us know.
